There are two types of blogger - one that wants fame and one that wants fortune. Maybe sometimes the two can be combined but generally most people who are considering blogging want to do it for one of these two reasons.

Perhaps you fancy yourself as a fashionista and you really want to share your thoughts with the world about mixing boots and skirts or the colours purple and green. You may have a burning desire to help people feel better about themselves by learning how to dress beautifully.

For a start it is actually someone else's platform and they can shut you down at any minute. One jealous report of spam or nudity and bam your page is banned and all your hard work has been deleted! They may also have their own terms and conditions on what you can talk about on their platform.
With your own site you call the shots. You make all the decisions about what will appear and how it will look.
Building an influencer brand is all about consistency, both of message and of aesthetics. You need to have control over those things to be successful.

So what if you have a passion or a hobby and you want to make money out of it as well? Then blogging is definitely for you.
The process of making money from blogging is called affiliate marketing. It works like this:
- You have a website
- You blog about issues or ideas that can help people

- Work through the 10 lessons to get your blog optimised for the search engines (all for free)
- Start writing and monetising your blog (free but does take your time)
You might already have an idea about what you want to blog about and that’s great. There is literally nothing you can’t blog about and make money from.

There are millions of products and services which you can receive commission on. Even if you believe your chosen hobby or idea doesn’t have any products at all you can still earn money by placing adverts on your site and never market or selling a thing.
